Education Advisory Board

Jack Chirikjian, Ph.D. Dr. Chirikjian is a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University Of Georgetown Medical Center. Jack is also the Founder and current Director of the Georgetown University Biotechnology Program which is a masters-level program that prepares students for careers in bioscience. The program has trained over 300 master-level students in the past five years. In addition to his academic career, Dr. Chirikjian is an accomplished entrepreneur who has founded several biotechnology companies including Bethesda Research Laboratories, BRL Inc./ LTI Inc./Invitrogen, Oncor, Inc., Trevigen, Inc. Edvotek (a bioscience education company) and several others.

Dr. Chirikjian received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He performed his postdoctoral studies at Princeton University before joining the faculty in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Georgetown Medical Center. He has authored over 45 scientific publications and is a recognized expert in biotechnology curriculum development and teaching.


Amy Davis Amy earned a B.A. in liberal arts from the University of Illinois and has over over twenty years of publishing experience in the marketing, acquisition, and development of college texts, software, and professional management titles for the university, trade, and healthcare manufacturing markets. She is the former President of Serentec Press and the former Director of Publications at Interpharm Press, where over a ten-year span, she took the imprint to the forefront of publishing in healthcare manufacturing technologies. Currently, Amy is President of Davis Horwood Publishing based in England.


Carolyn Kelley Carolyn received her undergraduate training in microbiology at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH. After several years of working in the bioscience industry, Carolyn obtained a teaching certificate and is currently a high school and community college biotechnology teacher. Carolyn’s areas of expertise include bioscience curriculum development and in-service science teacher professional development training. Some of Carolyn’s accomplishments include creation of a biotechnology program at Milford High School in New Hampshire and development of the only Biotechnology Education Center for high school students in the state of New Hampshire.


James L. Vesper Jim earned a B.S. in Biology from Wheaton College and a Masters of Public Health from the University of Michigan School of Public Health. His 22 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry include 11 years at Eli Lilly where he established the department and corporate mission for GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) Education and Instruction. In 1991, Jim formed LearningPlus, a content development and training company specializing in cGMP compliance and quality assurance and quality control issues. Jim has been a speaker at meetings of international technical and professional organizations including ISPE, GMP TEA, PDA, Pharmaceutical Sciences Group (Canada), Pharmtech, and the Center for Professional Advancement. Jim is on the faculty of the PDA Training and Research Institute and, in 2001, was presented with the PDA’s Agallaco Award for Excellence in Education. He is the author of four books: Training for the Healthcare Manufacturing Industries (1993); GMP and Quality/Auditing Clear and Simple (1997); and Documentation Systems Clear and Simple (1997) and GMPs in Practice (2001) Currently, Jim is President of LearningPlus and a member of the advisory board at Learnwright, an e-based training company.
