Who can use this forum?

Hi! I’m not sure how many people use this yet, but I was wondering whether it would be kosher to include this on a list of potential resources for researchers at my institution to consult if they have a question about writing a paper or grant.

The BIOWRITERS Forum was created because of the limitations imposed on members of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA)listserv groups.

The goal of this forum is to allow science and medical writers interact with one another either to discuss ideas, learn best business practices, advertise for work or post jobs.

I have created forum categories that make sense to me and were suggested by fellow AMWA listserv members. Please feel free to contact me if you have other category ideas or suggestions.

While there are no real user guidelines, I would like members to keep the discussions focused on medical and science writing. I reserve the right to remove inappropriate language or pejorative or discriminatory remarks made by forum users. Finally, please don’t spam the forum as it will deter user participation.

I am self-financing the site. But any one interested in sponsoring the forum or advertising on the forum page are welcome to contact me.

Hello,

I was very glad to find this forum in it’s infancy so that I may get some early advice on entering this field.

I have a bachelors degree in biology/pre-med, and a masters of science in regulatory affairs. I am also currently working on my MBA . I am currently employed as a regulatory affairs specialist for a medical device company. I write a lot of 510k’s as well as many OUS submissions to foreign agencies. I have a strong desire to steer my career toward medical writing, however, my company does very little “clinical” work.

I have contemplated the amwa certificate programs, however, I was hoping for some feedback on them. Additionally, I am interested in any advice or assistance in how to push my career more into medical and scientific writing.

I came across two freelancer sites that may be worth taking a look at:

Workforce: a bulletin board for freelancers looking for work

JobTracker a Facebook app created by the Freelancer Union for freelancer who advertise that they are looking for work.
